Contestants rise to the top at Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 30, 2026) – With two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Friday, fans had plenty of opportunity to see the best of the competitors.
On Friday night, contestants who earned a slot in the FWSSR ProRodeo Tournament at the Parker County Sherriff’s Posse Frontier Days Rodeo in nearby Weatherford took the spotlight in steer wrestling and tie-down roping.
That rodeo along with seven others across north Texas gives contestants a chance to compete in Dickies Arena, but first they must be winners at those qualifying events. In the steer wrestling, Boyd Sawyer, who is from Thedford, Nebraska, capitalized on his FWSSR opportunity. Sawyer had a time of 3.9 seconds and is on track to advance to the Semi-Finals.
In the tie-down roping, Trenton Smith got the win in Weatherford to compete here. The Bigfoot, Texas resident had the fastest time of the night at 8.5. Both men will compete again here Saturday morning. If they can clock fast runs again, they will represent the qualifiers in the Semi-Finals.
Rookie bull rider Hayden Welsh of Gillette, Wyoming, won the round in bull riding with the highest score of the tournament so far. He scored 88.5 points on Rafter G Rodeo’s bull named Riser and increased his chances to advance to the Semi-Finals.
Bracket 5 continues at the Saturday morning (11 a.m.) performance. Saturday night’s rodeo will feature the first round of Bracket 6. It starts at 7:30 p.m. with a new slate of contestants.
