Helping 4-H and FFA youth gain valuable experiences
in the livestock industry goes to the heart of the
Calf Scramble's purpose. The program creates
opportunities that extend far beyond the arena.
During 23 rodeo performances, 230 youth will catch
calves and receive certificates valued at $500.
Certificate proceeds are used to help participants
purchase a beef or dairy heifer that they care for
and prepare for exhibition at the Stock Show the
following year.
The Calf Scramble's greatest impact may be a youth's
college education. Participants who complete the
Calf Scramble Program may be eligible for scholarships
based on the quality and content of monthly reports
submitted to program sponsors, the effort devoted to
caring for and exhibiting their heifer and their final
essay outlining their Calf Scramble experience.
