Competition heating up at Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo ProRodeo Tournament

FORT WORTH, Texas (Feb. 6, 2026) – There is not a bareback rider that a Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) ProRodeo Tournament championship would mean more to than Leighton Berry.

Berry, who lives nearby in Weatherford, Texas, grew up coming to the legendary rodeo and event. He competed here three weeks ago on the first two nights of the rodeo. He won the 2025 Ellis County Livestock Show & Rodeo in Waxahachie, Texas, to earn a tournament berth. The four-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier had been riding with a torn labrum and last June he had hip surgery to repair that and remove a bone spur.

Under normal circumstances, he would be high enough in the world standings to qualify for this rodeo. Last year was anything but normal as he knew he was going to need to get his hip fixed to continue his career. So, in March when he won the rodeo in Waxahachie, he breathed a sigh of relief because he knew he had a slot to ride here.

Berry won Semi-Finals B Friday night with an 89-point ride on J Bar J Pro Rodeo’s horse named Dark Side. That added $4,000 to his earnings and doubled his winnings here to $8,000 with a lot more to win on Saturday night. He will be a favorite in Dickies Arena as he works to win his first FWSSR ProRodeo Tournament championship.

Also advancing to the Championship Finals is steer wrestler Landris White. The Angleton, Texas, resident also has ties to North Texas. He is an alumnus of Stephenville’s Tarleton State University. White stopped the clock in 3.6 seconds on Friday night for a first-place check of $4,000.

He finished 49th in the world standings last year. He is currently in 12th and if he wins a championship here, he will move up several positions. The top 15 in the standings at the end of September qualify for the NFR where world champions are crowned. White was the steer wrestling Rookie of the Year in 2022 but has yet to make an appearance at rodeo’s championships. This could be his year.

It’s been a few years since barrel racer Hailey Kinsel won a championship here. She won the rodeo in Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in 2019 and then earned another title the next year after it moved to Dickies Arena.

She and her great mare, DM Sissy Hayday “Sister”, are at it again. She was the final barrel racer to compete and stopped the clock in 16.26 seconds for the win. She will now be after title number three on Saturday night.

Saturday night’s final round will feature 8 qualifiers in each event from the two Semi-Finals. Rodeo action starts at 7:30 p.m., where rodeo athletes will earn championship buckles and big checks.
