“Stock Show Goes Pink” Raises $15,000 for Breast Cancer Battle

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (January 23, 2007) - Thousands of people sporting pink hats, shirts, scarves and other clothing adorned the Fort Worth Stock Show yesterday raising $15,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure - an organization dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer and supporting patients and families fighting the disease. The one-day event known as “Stock Show Goes Pink,” was organized by the show for the purposes of raising funds for the organization and to honor the courageous women who are surviving the terrible disease.

“Our original intent was to dedicate one-half of the day’s proceeds from rodeo and general admission ticket sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Stock Show Executive Vice President, Brad Barnes. “That amounted to $12,768 - but the inspiration of the organization, volunteers and especially the survivors compels us to raise the contribution to $15,000. We are proud to be engaged in the battle against breast cancer and look forward to another successful event next year.”

Breast cancer survivors were honored with free grounds admission and rodeo tickets as well as a reception – the Pink Ribbon Roundup – where they and their guests we served pink cake and lemonade. Survivors also received a special gift, compliments of the Komen organization. Besides the pink attire worn by Stock Show visitors, rodeo participants and stock show staff wore pink shirts compliments of Panhandle Slim.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Goodman Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan Goodman Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today the organization is an international organization with a network of 75,000 active volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Visit www.komen.org for more information about the organization.

Now in its 111th year, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo features entertainment events for the entire family, including livestock shows and educational experiences. Scheduled to run through February 4, some of this year’s other highlights includes 30 exciting performances of the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo.
