4 STOCK SHOW PRESENTS 56TH ANNUAL COWBOY ARTISTS OF AMERICA EXHIBITION AND SALE Whether it’s love, grace, benevolence or something else, good friendships produce good fruits. Of the many fruits that the friendships between Will Rogers, Amon Carter Sr. and Sid Richardson spanned, one created a lasting legacy and appreciation of Western art here in the City of Cowboys and Culture. And while the museums named after Carter and Richardson are home to significant collections of some of Rogers’ favorite Western artists – Frederick Remington and Charles Russell – Fort Worth had not hosted a major Western art exhibition and sale in recent memory. That was until the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) brought their annual event to Cowtown in 2019. After the 2020 show and sale was cancelled due to COVID-19, Stock Show leadership stepped up to support the exhibition and sale’s return with help from a wide swath of local supporters and collectors. The results were nothing short of amazing with sales topping $1.2 million, a 30 percent increase from the 2019 event. The 56th CAA Exhibition and Sale is scheduled for November 4 and 5 in the Amon G. Carter Exhibits Hall’s Round Up Inn. With some of the nation’s most elite Western artists showcasing more than 100 pieces – drawings, sculptures, mixed media, water solubles and oils – the event will be a great opportunity to find something unique for your home or office. “We’re proud to, again, be the presenting sponsor of this amazing Western art exhibition and sale,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Brad Barnes. “The collaborations evolving from this event gives an exciting boost to our shared goals of educating our youth on the culture and values of the livestock industry and the western way of life.” Purchase your tickets now at CowboyArtistsOfAmerica.com. You can, not only, purchase tickets but get more information on the exhibition and sale. Information on sponsorship opportunities can also be obtained by contacting Jordan Simons at jsimons@fwssr.com or calling 817-877-2534. A preliminary study of the exhibition will happen at the November 4 preview party. Saturday provides a full day of activities including a Q&A session with the artists that’s moderated by Ed Robeson and hosted by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. An awards luncheon is scheduled followed by the “fixed-price, luck of the draw” sale complete with live music, food and cocktails beginning at 5 p.m. Ticket prices range from $110 (access to most Saturday events) to $225 (access for all Friday and Saturday events). With a shared commitment to education, the Stock Show and CAA are collaborating with Imagination Fort Worth to bring up to 400 local art students to a private viewing of the exhibition on November 2. CAA members will greet and interact with the students providing them insights on the life and profession of a Western artist. 5 During the last decade, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Art Contest has steadily grown to now hosting more than 1,500 entries from across Texas. With support that includes volunteer efforts and fundraising from the Stock Show’s Guns & Roses Committee and the Junior League of Fort Worth, these youth will compete for $84,000 in cash awards and scholarships in 2023. Entries are now being accepted for the competition which is open to youth between ages 5 and 18. Artists may enter their works that are categorized as either 2-D (paintings, drawings, etc.) or 3-D (sculptures). Individual entries are judged in six age categories. Only high school students may submit 3-D entries. “It’s always exciting this time of year when art entries start coming through the door,” said Stock Show Art Contest Manager, Jordan Simons. “Being the first to receive entries for the upcoming Stock Show is cool and with the synergies created with the Cowboy Artists of America, our amazing volunteers and especially the new financial support for the High School 3-D division, this year’s competition will be our best ever.” With the goal of supporting and encouraging school art programs, a Classroom competition allows art teachers to submit a portfolio of between five and 15 pieces in three Classroom Divisions: Elementary (K to 5th grade); Middle School (grades 6th through 8th) and High School (9th through 12th). Winning classrooms in each division are awarded $5,000 to be used for art supplies. The opportunity to learn from some of the nation’s best western artists will be on the minds of many high school artists as they compete for a spot in an exclusive one-day workshop with members of the Cowboy Artists of America held on January 23 during the 2023 Stock Show. Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and 1st through 4th winners in the High School 2-D Division as well as the High School Classroom Division winners will earn the coveted spots. The prestige, excitement, and especially the financial rewards, associated with the Junior League of Fort Worth’s annual Grand Entry Gala is another reason the youth artists aspire to excel in the competition. A special auction for the Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and 1st through 4th winners’ 2-D works is featured during the gala, providing additional scholarship funds in addition to the awards specified in the contest’s guidelines. Entries can be personally delivered or mailed to the Stock Show offices at: 3400 Burnett-Tandy Dr. – Fort Worth, Texas – 76107. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information can be found at: www.fwssr.com/p/competitions--contests/art-contest or by emailing artcontest@fwssr.com. We all know that unique someone who is just naturally easy to talk to. Cathy Norman is one of those people. As an Account Executive with NBC 5 and Telemundo 39, Norman oversees the sponsor relationship between the stations and the Stock Show. While her role and presence in her official capacity has grown over the years, she has Stock Show roots that run deep to her youth. Norman was 2 when her parents, Ted and Dale Norman, moved her to Fort Worth from New Jersey. Ted and Dale were entertainers at New York’s famous Copacabana nightclub, but her father, Ted, wanted to return to his Fort Worth roots so Cathy became a Texan at an early age. Becoming a Texan naturally meant she might take up some Texas-style pursuits and by age 8 she was riding her first horse daily at the Fort Worth Horseshoe Club. HORSE SHOW THRILLS “I was 10-years old when I first showed my horse at the Stock Show,” Norman recalls. “I remember what a thrill it was and still get that same thrill walking on the grounds. I’ve shown Appaloosas, Palominos, Quarter Horses and most recently reining horses at the Stock Show which has always been a very special part of my life.” Norman’s love for horses kept her in Fort Worth after graduating from Paschal High School to attend Texas Christian University. Giving riding lessons brought in extra income while she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. She spent four years teaching special education before transitioning to the world of mass media. Yet, horses and helping those with mental and physical challenges remain compelling forces in Norman’s life. “Chisholm Challenge continues to be my favorite event,” she said referring to the horse show for therapeutic riding participants hosted by the Stock Show each year. “It’s long been a dream to combine my special education training with my experience showing horses, so I’m currently pursuing certification as a P.A.T.H. therapeutic riding instructor. My goal is to have a center for equine-assisted therapy in Fort Worth.” DAY OF THE FAMILY - Dia de la Familia The wife, mother and busy business executive has a strong appreciation for everything the Stock Show offers especially for families. That, combined with her years of experience working with the Hispanic community, gave Norman an idea for a special day that has become a popular Stock Show feature. “After I’d worked with the Stock Show for a couple of years, I felt the impact of an additional special day celebrating Hispanic families would be a great compliment to the Show,” she said. “I approached Dora Tovar, because of her media knowledge and public relations expertise, with my idea and we, then, presented our ‘vision’ to Brad Barnes who gave his approval. And, Dia de la Familia was born.” Typically held on the second Sunday of the Show, Dia de la Familia features entertainment and fun with a special guest appearances by Telemundo 39 news anchors and network stars such as Carlos Ponce. “The family friendly atmosphere at the FWSSR welcomes diversity in all areas,” said Norman. “You will see individuals and families of all races, nationalities and cultures which is what I love about the Stock Show.” ENHANCING THE BANG FOR THE BUCK The Stock Show goes to great pains to ensure that all sponsors get the best “bang for their buck” for their commitments. That bang for the buck is taken to new heights when sponsor executives become personally engaged in the Stock Show’s mission. Norman is the epitome of being personally engaged, lifting the value of the partnership between the Stock Show and NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 to extraordinary heights while also paying it forward. “NBC 5, Telemundo 39 and the Stock Show have a successful history of working together,” Norman said proudly. “And, for me, the greatest contribution we are making is the impact we’re having on the lives of so many young people including those who deserve special recognition for their perseverance to overcome life’s challenges.” 8 SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT CATHY NORMAN NBC 5 / TELEMUNDO 39 Left to right: Cathy, Telemundo 39 Anchor Nancy Leal and son Daniel Cathy shows Chief Blue Warrior “aka Blue” at her first FWSSR

9 Few individuals have enjoyed a larger presence at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo than Neal Gay. Since 1979, his Rafter G Rodeo Company has produced the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo with class and style. Thus, when the Rafter G patriarch died on August 11 at age 96, his Stock Show family mourned the legend’s passing. Gay was honored at a memorial service on August 23, fittingly held on the arena floor of the Will Rogers Coliseum where he oversaw the production of the Stock Show’s rodeo performances for almost four decades. An estimated 600 people attended the service that was likely viewed by thousands more via a broadcast on The Cowboy Channel. “Neal embodied the true meaning of how a rodeo cowboy should conduct himself,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Brad Barnes during remarks given at the service. “He certainly inspired us all to do better and be better.” Others speaking at the ceremony included Anthony Lucia, Shawn Davis, Ricky Null, Ricky Bolin, Joe Beaver, Billy Minick and Bob Tallman. Stock Show rodeo pivot setter, Kelly Pickens, sang Amazing Grace and several videos highlighting Neal’s legendary accomplishments were also played. Neal Gay began working at Stock Show rodeo performances in the 1970s when then Stock Show President W.R. Watt, Sr. asked him to take on the challenging task of removing rodeo contestants and others who’d found their way onto the Coliseum’s arena floor for a close up view of the action near the bucking chutes. Neal’s success made such an impression on the elder Watt and his son, Bob, that the rodeo producer who, by then had also successfully launched the popular Mesquite Championship Rodeo, was named the Stock Show rodeo’s producer in 1979. As time went by Neal continued raising the bar and improving the quality of the stock draw for the FWSSR’s 22 rodeo performances in the early 1980s which grew to 36 in 2019. Today, his Rafter G Rodeo organization made up of three generations of family members and numerous employees continue playing major roles in the production of the Stock Show’s specialty rodeos and the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament which is now among the top five largest professional rodeos in the nation. “I know some of you old-timers may prefer it here with all the memories this building holds,” said Barnes referring to the Coliseum. “But, thanks to the groundwork laid by Neal Gay, thousands of young folks are making Fort Worth rodeo memories of their own in Dickies Arena due, in large part, to Neal’s awesome Rafter G family. Heroes get remembered but legends never die.” STOCK SHOW MOURNS PASSING OF ICONIC RODEO PRODUCER, NEAL GAY

10 STOCK SHOW AWARDS TEXAS FFA SCHOLARSHIPS Approximately 15,000 FFA members from across Texas met in Fort Worth, July 11 through 15 for their 94th annual state convention. The youth came to compete in contests (Ag Quiz Bowl, Public Speaking, Soil and Water Stewardship and Extemporaneous Speaking were just few), participate in leadership workshops and attend general sessions where attendees conducted business and celebrated their accomplishments and achievements as an organization and as individuals. Scholarship awards have long been a key feature at the Texas FFA convention and the Stock Show maintains a strong presence awarding $96,000 to members of both the Texas FFA and Texas 4-H organizations. This year, the following 12 FFA members received an $8,000 scholarship funded by the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. RECIPIENT CHAPTER Avery Brooks Union Grove FFA Cody Ellison Winnsboro FFA Jessica Francis Prairiland FFA Nicole Greer Grapevine FFA Tobi Jackson Grandview FFA Jaraden Kearby Wall FFA Jaycee Obermier Bellevue FFA Ally Robinson Fairfield FFA Emily Spiess Bellville FFA Reed Terrell Levelland FFA Makenzie Thames Columbus FFA Pake Williams Dawson FFA NATIONAL FARM LIFE INSURANCE MAKES STRONG COMMITMENT TO RABBIT SHOW EXHIBITORS With all the buzz surrounding youth exhibitors and their steers, barrows, lambs and goats, it’s easy for smaller competitions like the rabbit show to get lost in all the excitement. But just because they’re smaller (no pun intended) doesn’t mean they’re not an important contributor to the Stock Show’s mission. Youth rabbit exhibitors learn practically every aspect of animal production that a youth who cares for a steer, heifer or lamb learns – in some respects more. As a parent of kids who raise and show rabbits, Kyle McGregor, president of National Farm Life Insurance, appreciates this fact as much as anyone. Thus when McGregor approached Stock Show management about discussing ways to enhance the Youth and Open Rabbit Shows, a dynamic relationship was formed that will draw new attention and excitement to an exhibition with a long FWSSR history. “As an FFA member I exhibited steers, heifers and market swine, but never rabbits. Our daughters chose rabbits because we live in town and our chapter does not have a formal feeding facility. I continue to be surprised and impressed with how much they know and have learned due to the fact they are involved in each step of selection, care, nutrition, breeding, showing and marketing, etc.” National Farm Life Insurance stepped up with funding to make several enhancements for exhibitors and show officials for the 2023 Show. Exhibitors winning Best in Show, First Runner Up and Second Runner Up in both the Youth and Open will receive FWSSR belt buckles and trophies courtesy of the Texas-only company that has provided security to families for more than 75 years. “Like the Stock Show, our roots in the agricultural industry run deep,” added McGregor. “We’re excited to support exhibitors who are a part of this rich Fort Worth tradition.” Brad Barnes (far left) and Stefan Marchman (far right) and 2022 FWSSR Scholarship Winners at Texas FFA Convention.

Youth are also saddling up for Escaramuza and Charro Cala competitions and they’re riding for the Fort Worth Stock Show where they’ll compete for $22,000 in scholarship awards in 2023. The new classes are scheduled for January 28 in the Will Rogers Coliseum. The Texas Invitational Escaramuza and Charro Cala Competition for adults follows on January 29. TUCKNESS TO RETURN TO FWSSR IN 2023 Ten time PRCA Bullfighter of the Year, Dusty Tuckness, will return to Dickies Arena after recuperating from a major injury sustained at the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Recovery from a left leg fracture – both the tibia and fibula – kept Tuckness from working what would have been his 14th Stock Show. Grit, determination and the discipline necessary for rehab brought Tuckness back into action this July when he worked the Cheyenne Frontier Days. “We knew Dusty’s tenacity, work ethic and character brought him back from a major injury in a short period of time,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Brad Barnes. “We’ll be thrilled to welcome Dusty back knowing that he, Nathan Harp and Evan Allard will have our bull riders’ backs when the chips are down.”
